Biography

Maggie Niekamp, violinist, is an active performer and teacher in the Midwest. She received her Master’s in Violin Performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Timothy Lees, former Concertmaster of the Cincinnati Symphony. Maggie received her BM degree in Violin Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied with Stephen Rose, principal second violinist of The Cleveland Orchestra and Brian Lewis.

An avid orchestral musician, Maggie currently serves as a Section Violin Member with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and as an Associate Violin Member with the Columbus Symphony. In addition, Maggie has spent summers performing with ensembles including the Chautauqua Music School Festival Orchestra, the National Repertory Orchestra, the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra, and most recently with the Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra.

Maggie also enjoys a diverse career as a chamber musician, performing in chamber music series across the region. Maggie is currently a member of New Downbeat — a collective featuring women musicians who perform music exclusively by living composers. She most recently served as a member of the Cincinnati String Project from 2022-2025, where she performed with the group’s resident string quartet and taught as a part of their education program.

Maggie began playing the violin at the age of four in her hometown of Akron, Ohio. When away from her violin, Maggie can be found practicing yoga, taking long walks through local parks, cooking, and reading.
